Gibson Byrdland Sunburst 1969

Gibson Byrdland Sunburst 1969

The Byrdland, the groundbreaking debut in Gibson's Thinline series, broke with convention. For guitarists longing for a fusion of elegance and comfort, this masterpiece offered the perfect answer. With its streamlined design and slim body, it offered a playability that deviated from traditional archtop models like the L5.

Ā

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of guitarists Byrd and Garland, the Byrdland was born, characterized by a shorter scale and a narrower neck, a game-changer for complex playing techniques. Launched in 1955, the Byrdland combined the refined character of a custom-built L5CES with a slimmer profile. And to ensure easy access to the higher frets, the guitar features a Venetian cutaway, which replaced the Florentine cutaway in 1969.

Ā

This guitar, built in 1969, features two Patent No. humbuckers and all-original electronics. The guitar's finish shows the crackle and playwear so familiar from vintage Gibsons, giving it its beloved look.Ā

Ā

On the back of the Flower Pot-decorated headstock are the original Kluson Sealfast tuners, and the beautiful engraved 'Triple Loop' tailpiece leaves no doubt: this is a true Byrdland!
