Gretsch Custom Shop G6136 Candy Apple Red Falcon Stephen Stern 2018
This Falcon from the Gretsch Custom Shop was built by none other than Master Builder Stephen Stern. With its striking Candy Apple Red finish, gold sparkle binding, and gold-colored hardware, this is a showstopper you won't soon forget. The two Dynasonic pickups complete the sound with that typical Gretsch character that enthusiasts fall for.
The Gretsch Falcon holds a special place in guitar history. With its classic aesthetic and deep, complex sound, this Hollow Body model is a first-class instrument ideal for taking your musical playing to the next level.
This Falcon was built by Stephen Stern, the now-retired Senior Master Builder of the Gretsch Custom Shop. Stern led the Custom Shop for many years and has an impressive background. After training in high-end furniture making, he worked at Charvel/Jackson from 1979 to 1984, after which he joined the Fender Custom Shop in 1993. There, he became a Master Builder in 1994 and studied under legendary archtop builders such as Jimmy D'Aquisto and Bob Benedetto. His expertise in archtop construction eventually led him to Gretsch, where he has been responsible for iconic projects such as the George Harrison Tribute Duo Jet and the Malcolm Young Salute Jet.
The Candy Apple Red finish of this Falcon immediately catches the eye and gives the guitar a beautiful appearance. The gold sparkle binding forms a beautiful contrast with the deep red of the body, while the gold-colored hardware gives the whole a luxurious look. Mother-of-pearl thumbnail inlays adorn the ebony fingerboard, and the matching headstock completes the visual picture. The two Dynasonic pickups deliver that characteristic open, clear, and somewhat raw tone Gretsch is known for, with enough twang for rockabilly but also sufficient body for blues and rock.
The guitar was built in 2018 and is in excellent condition. On the back of the body, there are some stress lines in the lacquer near the cutaway, and a small section of the binding on the corner of the fingerboard on the treble side has been repaired. Comes with a TFOA passport in a hardshell case.
